Mielie Pap

Use your Instant Pot to make this authentic, comforting South African breakfast.  There’s no stirring or watching needed, and you can use Delay Start function to have it ready when you wake up!

Normally mielie meal porridge takes 30 mins to over an hour on the stove with continuous stirring and watching…but with an Instant Pot it is quick and easy.

1 cup mielie meal
2-2.25 cups of boiling water (depending on what consistency you like your pap)
1 cup of water for cooking
Butter and other flavourings to taste.

Place the trivet in the Instant Pot with 1 cup of water. On the trivet place an oven save bowl or pot with the mielie pap and boiling water in.

Close the lid and set the pressure release valve to Sealing. Use the Porridge preset for 15-20 minutes depending on the consistency you like. Once finished do a natural pressure release.

You can also set the Delay Start the night before so it is ready when you wake up. Take into account time for the pot to pressurize when setting timing.

Once finished add butter and any other flavourings you fancy.
