Tofu fries are the perfect high-protein snack or side dish. Long skinny sticks of tofu are perfect for dipping into your favorite sauce.
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes
Ingredients for the tofu fries
350g extra firm tofu, cut into rectangular strips
½ cup almond flour
¼ cup plant milk + more if needed
3 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp nutritional yeast
1 tsp mixed dried herbs
1 tsp garlic powder
½ tsp smoked sweet paprika
¼ tsp ground cumin
Pinch of sea salt + ground black pepper
Ingredients for the creamy dipping sauce:
½ cup vegan mayo
1 small garlic clove, minced
Juice from half a lemon
½ tsp liquid sweetener (agave syrup/maple syrup) - optional
Pinch of sea salt
To serve:
Wedge of lemon
Method:
To make the tofu fries. Add the plant milk into a bowl. In a separate bowl add the almond flour, nutritional yeast, mixed dried herbs, garlic powder, smoked sweet paprika, ground cumin, sea salt and ground black pepper. Mix well.
Dip the tofu strip into the milk and then into the almond flour mixture. Once all the strips are dipped into both mixtures; lightly brush with olive oil and air fry at 200C for 15 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. If needed, when you turn the fries, give them an extra brush of olive oil for a beautiful golden crust.
To make the creamy dipping sauce, add all the ingredients together and mix well. Taste and adjust the flavours if necessary. Add more lemon juice for a tart dip or more sweetness for a sweeter dip. Season with a pinch of sea salt.
Serve your tofu fries hot with the creamy dipping sauce and a wedge of lemon. Enjoy!
